We will buy your unwanted stones and jewelry.
Leon Mege has spent more than 25 years buying and selling diamonds, fine jewelry, gold, and estate items. We work with clients in the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, with discretion, transparency, and respect for every client’s time and privacy.
This policy explains how our buying process works, what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you. By contacting us, scheduling an appointment, or selling items to us, you agree to the terms below.
Our Commitment to Discretion and Privacy
Selling jewelry or an estate is often a personal matter. For that reason:
- We schedule all appointments in advance so we can give you our full attention in a private setting.
- We do not disclose your identity, your items, or the details of your transaction to third parties, except where the law requires it or where you have given us written permission.
- Information you share with us is used only to evaluate your items, complete your transaction, maintain required records, and communicate with you about your sale.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Please note that discretion does not mean anonymity. As described in Section 8, every transaction is recorded.
- To sell to us, please call or email us to request an appointment. We do not buy on a walk-in basis.
- When you contact us, please tell us what you would like to sell, such as a few items or a full estate, and share any photos or documents you have, including grading reports, receipts, or appraisals.
- Email inquiries may receive an estimate based on the information and images you provide. Any estimate is preliminary and is not a binding offer.
What We Buy
- Signed pieces from important brands, including Cartier, Leon Mege, Harry Winston, and similar houses.
- Natural diamonds and gemstones
- Unsigned platinum and 18K gold jewelry.
- Estate items, from small collections to entire estates.
We reserve the right to decline any item for any reason, including condition, authenticity concerns, or questions about ownership.
Appraisal and Purchase Offers
- We may provide a verbal appraisal and purchase offer at no charge.
- Our evaluations are based on GIA and Gubelin gemological standards.
- Our offer reflects our assessment of the item at the time of the appointment, along with current market conditions. Because metal and gemstone markets move, this offer is valid for 24 hours only.
- Our verbal appraisal is a purchase offer. It is not a written insurance, resale, or replacement appraisal. If you need one for those purposes, please use an independent appraiser.
- You are under no obligation to accept an offer. If you decline, you owe us nothing for the evaluation itself.
Minimum Transaction Value
The minimum transaction value is $1,000 USD. This minimum applies to the total value of the items offered in a single transaction. We may not be able to schedule an appointment for sales below this amount.
Travel, Consultations, and House Calls
- We will travel for opportunities valued over $50,000, subject to scheduling and our assessment of the items based on the information you provide in advance.
- Consultation services and house calls are available for a fee. The applicable fee will be quoted case by case and agreed to in writing before any visit or consultation takes place.
- If we agree to travel and then purchase, we may waive the fee against the transaction, as confirmed in writing beforehand.
Records, Identification, and Compliance
All transactions are recorded. To protect you and us, and to comply with applicable laws on secondhand goods, precious metals, gemstones, and financial crime prevention, we may require:
- Valid government-issued photo identification.
- Proof of address.
- Ownership statement.
- Information about how you acquired the items and, where relevant, documents such as receipts, grading reports, probate papers, or letters of authority for an estate.
We keep these records for the period required by law and protect them with appropriate security measures. We may be required to share them with authorities when legally obliged to do so. We cannot complete a purchase if the required information is not provided.
Seller Representations and Warranties
By selling an item to us, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into the sale.
- You are the lawful owner of the item, or you are authorized in writing to sell it on behalf of the owner or estate.
- The item is free of liens, claims, loans, or security interests, and it has not been stolen or acquired unlawfully.
- All information and documents you provide are accurate to the best of your knowledge.
If an item is later found not to meet these conditions, we may take the steps the law allows, including reversing the transaction or reporting the matter to the appropriate authorities.
Payment
- Payment is made by company check.
- Funds can be released quickly and simply once the transaction is agreed upon and all required documentation is complete. Actual timing for the funds to clear depends on your bank.
- We do not offer loans or hold items as collateral. Selling to us is a direct sale, not a pawn transaction, so you have no debt and no obligation to buy back the item.
- Please make sure the payee name and details you provide are correct. We cannot be responsible for delays caused by incorrect information.
Finality of Sale
Once you accept our offer, sign the transaction record, and we issue payment, the sale is final. Title to the items passes to Leon Mege at that point. Because we are buying items at a price based on market conditions, we do not offer cancellations or reversals after payment, except where required by law.
Certified and Non-Certified Stones
We buy both certified and non-certified diamonds. If a stone has a grading report, we will review it and verify the stone against that report. For non-certified stones, we evaluate them based on our own gemological examination under GIA standards. Our assessment may differ from a grading by another laboratory or appraiser, and we are not responsible for such differences.
Website Use and Communications
The information on this website is general and does not form an offer to buy or sell. Prices and offers are available only after we have examined your items. When you contact us by email, phone, or form, we may retain that correspondence to respond to you and to keep proper records. Please avoid sending sensitive identity documents by unsecured email, and we will tell you how to send them securely when required.
Limitation of Liability
To the extent the law permits, Leon Mege is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including changes in the value of an item after the sale, or losses due to your decision to accept or decline an offer. Nothing in this policy limits liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Governing Law and Disputes
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York. We encourage you to contact us first about any concern so that we can try to resolve it directly. Any dispute that cannot be resolved will be handled in the courts or other forum of New York, unless the law of your location gives you other rights.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy at any time. The version in force at the time of your transaction applies to it. The date at the top shows when the policy was last revised.
